What's difference between dating/going out/relationship/bf-gf?

I'm kind of confused on this part.

If two people are dating, does that mean that they are girlfriend and boyfriend?

If a guy says "will you go out with me?", is he asking a for a relationship/for you to be his girlfriend or does he just want to go on a date or something and see if you guys are compatible or something like that?

Do people who don't really know each other well go out on a date or do you usually ask someone out on a date after you get to know them better and you like them?

-confused

What's difference between dating/going out/relationship/bf-gf?myspace names

well according to my sons...in high school 'dating' is the same as 'going out' is the same as 'bf/gf'

back in my day and in my mind...dating is 'making a specified time and place to meet and do something together'

whether it is talking, walking, movies, art show, sport etc.

'dating' = date + ing (making dates on your calender where you have freed time to get together. one on one dating or date with your mom or friend or whatever)

bf/gf again, back in 'my' day...bf is your beloved. guy friend is a male friend/acquaintance. we didnt call any other guy 'bf'

and we usually would say, my friend jim, joe, jack and people would not assume they were your 'bf' because you specified 'my friend' and a guy's name to determine he is a 'male friend' only if his name was like 'terry or jerry or leslie' then you would specify 'my friend geri' who is a girl or my friend terry who is a guy.

'dating' to me doesnt mean bf/gf

to kids nowadays i guess it does

for me 'will you go out with me means...hey, i want to get to know you so lets hang out on this specified time and day.

OR hey, ive nothing to do saturday and i'd like your company if youre free.

but also, 'will you go out with me' in TODAYS TEEN

i guess it means, be my bf or gf

for my generation (baby boomers) if you dont know someone, then 'dating' is a way to get to know them or to see if you might like to or not pursue something with them....and it could be by someone who is a new acquaintance or someone youve known in circles/work/friends or family situations

i hope ive helped. its best to ask the age of the person talking about dating or going out. that will give you a clue as to the meanings.
